Question: What is the meaning of the word ואולם in 28:19?

Approach: looking at other places where this word is used in the תורה, it appears that it is used to describe a complete about-turn and change. For example, it is used to explain to פרעה why he is being kept alive despite being deserving of death. In this context, it seems that the meaning is that the city would no longer be known by its former name (of לוז), but rather by the new name (of בית א-ל)

Question:  Why are the laws of בכור not written together with the other קרבנות rules earlier in the פרשה? Approach: The rule of בכור being only allowed to be eaten in המקום אשר יבחר ה' is mentioned in the earlier section. This section comes to teach us the rule of the בכור בעל מום, and the special leniencies that apply, allowing the animal to still be eaten - and anywhere. It thus could be viewed as similar to the released slave, who no longer is limited to his master's domain (the rules mentioned just before).
